Internships

About Our Internship Program

Students participating in an internship with Rape Response will gain knowledge and experience in non-profit management, community education and victim advocacy. Skills employed will include interpersonal skills, program administration, organization and evaluation, public speaking and interacting under board governance. This is an unpaid internship. Intern Duties

Interns participating with Rape Response will:

  1. Participate in mandatory volunteer training course (30 hours of training);
  2. Engage with staff and volunteers to provide support, advocacy and education to survivors of sexual assault;
  3. Foster relationships with Agency staff, volunteers and the community;
  4. Provide assistance to staff with a variety of administrative responsibilities, including program evaluation, phone coverage and organizing and developing marketing and media materials; 
  5. Assist with expansion of community involvement through attending collaborative meetings; 
  6. Assist in the development and delivery of presentations, workshops, and group sessions to the community and represent Agency at community events/fairs/expos;
  7. Enhance existing social media and management;
  8. Attend all orientations, scheduled trainings and committee meetings as needed;
  9. Other duties as assigned to support the Agency’s goals and meet the intern’s academic requirements.

Intern Responsibilities

  1. Meet with Supervisor prior to the start of internship to develop work plan to meet Agency expectations and academic requirements;
  2. Meet with Supervisor a minimum of 1 hour per week to discuss progress, evaluate interventions needed and respond to unforeseen problems;
  3. Keep Supervisor informed of academic requirements and deadlines of internship;
  4. Meet all requirements assigned by academic and Rape Response supervisors;
  5. Present all developed materials to agency staff for approval prior to release to the public;
  6. Maintain appropriate professional dress and behavior during internship hours;
  7. Keep all information regarding the clients of Rape Response, Inc. confidential.

Intern Requirements

This internship is available to individuals ages 18 and older who are interested in or studying psychology, sociology, social work, human services, nonprofit management and/or program development, media and marketing, communications or teaching. Other major fields of study will be considered. 

Intern MUST have:

  1. Strong verbal, written, and computer skills;
  2. Cultural competency;
  3. Ability to work in a variety of settings (office, school, ER);
  4. Strong interpersonal skills including:
    a. Active listening and empathic response
    b. Ability to interact with others to achieve expected results
    c. Ability to function as a team member
    d. Ability to work independently as needed
    e. Ability to align personal goals with that of the Agency and participate in collaborative activities
    f. Ability and willingness to self-assess
    g. Ability to prioritize, organize work and follow-through on assignments.
  5. If a survivor of sexual assault, must have at least one year of recovery since incident.
